The list of occupations, as well as the restrictions on some of the more commonly used occupations, have changed. It is important to make sure your role and speciality is still on the list before moving forward.
The following are also no longer as they were:
• Length of visa – it may be granted for two years or four years
• Available occupations (as mentioned above)
• Restrictions (“caveats”) on certain occupations
Character: You now must provide a police check for every country you have lived in for 12 months or more in the last 10 years since turning 16.
The DIBP ("Department of Immigration and Border Protection") say that processing times for subclass 457 visa applications are reducing – good news! – however, the same cannot be said for the next stage, permanent residence, these are taking longer to process, according to the DIBP website, due to the increase number of lodged subclass 186 and 187 visa applications since April 2017.
